how far will we get?

Ethan is running around my computer room having just been kicked out of the craft room for coloring on my walls again! This is like the 200th time but I am counting my blessings because it was just pencil, not permenant marker this time AND I caught him heading for his second wall before he did any more damage!. So, we'll see how far I get with this post.
But I have had pictures and ideas I wanted to blog about. So, this will be a random post and may take me all day to write, but here we go!

Back To School!

I love getting ready to go back to school! First, we buy
new school supplies. I love a brand new box of crayons, clean erasers, freshly sharpened pencils, sharp scissors... Then, we organize all our stuff! We divide things out, fill our pencil boxes and load our backpacks... This year, I personalized my kids bags with Heidi Swapp iron-ons. Don't you love it! I want to monogram everything!! This year, we didn't really need to shop for school clothes but we did need shoes. And let me say, prayers were answered when I found shoes for every child at Target AND they were on sale! So, with several days until school would start, we were packed and ready to go!
I think I decided I want to be a pencil sharpener when I grow up! There is something wonderful about the smell of the wood and the sharpness of the point and the pile of yellow lines growing... do you think that's a real job?

Fun Mom!!

The hose was out because I had cleaned the pool (and put it away), sprayed down the swing set and cleaned the front porch (including my rocking chairs). I went out just before putting kids to bed to make sure everything was put away when I noticed how dirty the garage door was. I asked Soren to run and turn on the water so I could spray it down. Well, unlike my usual neat freak, get to bed on time self, I decided to just spray Soren with the hose! And Megan. And Emily. And Kate and Ethan! Everyone was already in their jammies and Kelly was waiting for us to have family prayer- but, who cares? Well, normally I do. But I let loose and was rewarded with really great laughter and smiles on my kids! I can't promise it will become a habit, but I did have a good time forgetting the routine and just having fun! I couldn't help but think how proud Kristi would be of me!!

Tradition!

Even though I am jealous of people with lots of traditions, we don't have many of them around our house. We do have one though that I LOVE! Every year, on the first day of school, I give a new book to any child who is in school. Often, it ends up being more than one and this year I have four in school!! So, this is the stack of books for my kids this year. I am really excited to give them to my kids because I found books that are so perfect for my kids interests and reading levels!! I love how excited all my kids are about reading! It is the one homework assignment I can get behind!! Happy Reading!

Surprise!!

Of course I love good mail, but I received a couple of things in the last week or two that I was NOT expecting! My sister, Elizabeth, sent me a package with tags and ribbon... something she has never done before! We exchange kids clothes and christmas presents but a package full of fun for no reason at all! It totally made my day!! Thanks Elizabeth!

And then, I walked into my front room the other night and found a Stampin' Up bag sitting by the door. I asked the kids where it came from and nobody knew! AND, in addition to my order, there was a bundle of Bazzill books. I called Jill to find out what the deal was and she said, Lisa brought the books back from her retreat in Arizona for us! She had just slipped the bag in my front door- if there was ever a reason to leave your door unlocked when you leave, this is it!!! :) So, THANKS Lisa! It was SO nice of you to bring me my stuff and to haul back the extra goodies! I'm looking forward to scraplifting some great ideas!

So, You Think You Can Dance?

I think there has been enough time since the finale to say, hip hip hooray! Can you believe Benji won?!??! I have SO loved this show! I liked all the dancers in the final four, although I wish Allison had made it! But, I really expected Travis to win. When they said it wasn't Heidi, I wasn't surprised. When they said it wasn't Donyelle, I wasn't surprised. When they annouced Benji as the winner, I jumped three feet in the air and screamed! I didn't think I cared that much because I liked them all, but I was shocked and thrilled for him! I can't wait for next season! And in the meantime, Kelly is compiling a CD for us of our favorite songs from the show. Any suggestions?

Well, it has been eight hours since I started this. I'm sure there was more I would have blogged about if I had had time each day. But alas, I do what I can. It was fun to post again. l'd do it more if Ethan would nap! He fell asleep today in the stroller on the way to Emily's Kindergarten Evaluation and was woken by the hail storm we had to walk home in! A day in my life... sheesh!

Why am I always shocked when you update? I guess I have low expectations since you're neck-deep in kids, but a post this long really blows any expectations out of the water. Wow.

I love the monogrammed backpacks, what a great idea. I'm going to do that to Whitney's. She got a black and hot pink Hello Kitty backpack and I think a hot pink W would be the cutest thing ever.

I love all the back-to-school supplies too and think being a pencil sharpener when you grow up would be a fun job. We have an electric pencil sharpener and I can't even tell you how happy it makes me.

Congrats on being the fun mom, but especially being the fun mom at bedtime! That should earn you triple points. (Even more when factoring in that you cleaned the porch, rockers, pool and garage!)

I thought Travis was going to win So You Think You Can Dance so I was delighted when Benji won! I miss that show and was just thinking this morning "oh, this is our first week without it, I miss it so."

I love Ethan. I love your other kids too, but I can't wait to give that kid a big hug and kiss!

You only like back to school supplies because you aren't the one going back to school. I do, however, LOVE the monograms. You can do that to my stuff anytime!

I'm glad you got to be a fun mom for a night! I know how much it means to your kids to see you enjoy spending time with them. I'm sure you made their night (and their week). I love your little family! We miss you so much.

I'm glad Benji won, although I'm not exactly sure what that means. If it makes you happy, it makes me happy!

The backpacks are adorable. You mean your kids don't want the Spider Man, etc. backpacks?

I loved So You Think You Can Dance. My favorite show this year. Rock Star: Supernova is just not doing it for me now that the dance show is over. I really wanted and thought that Allison would make it to the end, but out of the last four, I was so excited for Benji. He had a cute personality.

Wow! I love this long post! Sometimes it takes me forever to post, too, and you wonder if it's worth it. Well it is! I was so excited to read all about what you've been up to.

Ethan's wall-coloring escapades have me so stressed out for you. I just don't know how you're handling this. The chaos you deal with would be hard for me for even one day, but you do it every day! You're wonder woman to me.

I love the back to school supplies too. I was so disappointed that my kids didn't need too much this year! Nothing for Lucas, can you believe it? And for Max, just index cards, red pens, and extra leads for mechanical pencils. Blah. Your monogrammed backpacks are the cutest thing in the world! Where did you get those iron-ons? And, I love your tradition of the new books. So fun.

Seriously, being a fun mom at bedtime? Getting all their jammies wet so they all had to change clothes before you could move on to the bedtime routine? Yeah, you scored a lot of extra points on that one!

I too am sad that So You Think You Can Dance is over. Such good TV! and I am feeling the loss. I thought Travis would win for sure. But I love Benji, so I was very excited and happy for him!

What a great post. I love how you touched on everything.

I LOVE the stationary aisles at all stores and especially at back to school time. The back packs are SO cute. I will have to think of something I can monogram for my kids?

I love that you are the fun mom! I wish that came more naturally for me.

Back to school time definitely seems like something you would love. The backpacks are so cute! I love it when things you need are on sale.

I LOVE that you were a fun mom at bedtime! I have a hard time with that kind of stuff. Playtime just doesn't seem to come naturally to me. I'm sure your kids will remember the night mom sprayed them with the hose while they were in their pajamas for a very long time. Good for you!!

Will I be disowned if I say I haven't seen a single minute of So you think you can dance?

i love the monogram idea. i used rubons last year for tess's backback but by the end of the year they all fell off. perhaps i should try iron ons.

i love getting ready for school. it is really only my second year so it is all new to me. i love it.

i am so glad you posted about "so you think you can dance". i watched only a few episodes while my sister was in town so i didn't see the whole season, but i thought for sure travis would win. i didn't watch the finale so i just assumed he won. so thank you for sharing. i am happy benji won.

I've responded to this post several times in my mind, so I thought I had. It was a great post! Cute backpacks. Sharpened pencils are cool. But being a fun mom is the coolest. That is a real job that you can do when you grow up!
