Disconnected.

My friend accidentally called my cell phone yesterday, maybe hers was in her pocket. I could hear her talking and tried calling her name several times, but she didn't respond. Eventually, she must have realized her phone was on because she ended the call. I stood on the other end wondering how my friend was doing- it has been a month since I've talked to her. That led me to think of other friends that I have not talked to or seen in a while- it was a LOT!

I feel really disconnected right now. I hate that feeling.
I feel really... not in control right now. I hate that feeling too.

I have so many ideas for taking control and making the life I want to have but things are constantly getting in the way. I am so good at being busy without really knowing why and without really making any progress. This would lead right into my word for 2010, but that will have to wait one more day while I regather my thoughts.

Today- I need to just finish a post. I need to try and reconnect with people I've been missing. So- Hello! Here's a glimpse at what has kept me busy so far in 2010:

  • 28 dance lessons
  • 7 violin lessons
  • 2 birthdays in our immediate family
  • 2 birthdays in our extended family
  • 1 Blue and Gold Banquet where Soren earned his Weblos
  • 9 basketball games between Soren playing Jr. Jazz and Kate playing with the YW
  • 2 Science Fairs
  • 2 District Science Fairs
  • 5 organization classes
  • 125+ miles of running
  • 5 dentist appointments
  • 3 orthodontist appointments
  • 1 new niece
  • 2 ward funerals
  • 9 visits to classrooms and countless drop-offs for books, lunches, P.E. clothes and projects
  • 4 book clubs to discuss The Hunger Games (twice!), The Help and The Scarlet Letter, plus
  • 24 hours of girl time for a book club overnighter
  • 7 days in Arizona to spend time with family, especially my dad who will be starting chemo
  • 100 file folders, as part of a new organization system that is almost in place
  • in addition to laundry, dishes, vacuuming...
Most of these are not really valid excuses for being so out of touch, but when you only have good intentions and no time management skills- this is where you find yourself.

Here's to recommitting. And reconnecting.

{Another reason I struggle to blog- it EATS up my time!! 45 minutes trying to load pictures, another 30 minutes trying to save and publish, to just have to walk away without a new post. I wrote this two days ago! Now, another 30 minutes and switching computers to finally publish this post- ugh!}

I too often feel disconnected. Kudos to you for your new goal of organization and recommitting to things you need to, I love you!

Hey, I am so sorry. But, not sorry that it inspired you to update your blog. :) My parents were loading up their moving truck that day and it was crazy! I did see that I called you from my pocket later that day. I miss you and am so ready to get together to chat! I will call you for real right now!

I'm a little sad that after that super human list you still feel "less than" I so wish I could show you how you look to the people who love you. Yes, maybe you don't accomplish everything you want to do, but just look into your children's eyes...do you see that? That was born of you...You are a MIRACLE worker. Breathe that in, feel it, believe it and then cut yourself some slack. We are not meant to run faster than we are able. You are an amazing, talented, vivacious, strong, loving, creative, spectacular woman. I so love and admire you!
(There, now I'm done lecturing...hope you know it was said with love!)

Whenever you list the things you've been busy doing it makes my head spin! It's a good thing we don't face our lives knowing what's exactly ahead otherwise we'd probably shut down completely!
