trade offs

Well, this is what I have been doing for the last 2 days. I have not done any housework, laundry, primary stuff, cooking... actually, I did wash 3 loads of laundry- but I didn't fold them or put them away! and I did pick up the downstairs since our home teachers came over last night- but that never lasts more than 15 minutes and needs to be done again. So, I haven't been a total slacker- but I do feel seriously behind in all things I am responsible for! I love to scrapbook but I don't do it very often so I am terribly slow and the results don't always seem worth the repercussions of spending my time in the craft room instead of elsewhere! But, it feels good to have finished a page, especially an Ethan page (poor fifth child!). It was fun to play with my papers and sewing machine! And I'm very proud of my accordian book held closed with a rubber band and eye hook! So, maybe I'll just keep trying and I will get to be faster. Then I could fold the laundry too! (Sorry about the weird shadows, I'm still learning how to stitch and my scanner won't scan 12 inches long even though the table is that long! I just spent 2 days making the page, you'll have to live with the shadows for now!)
Fellow scrapbookers- I love enlargements but I am feeling extremely frustrated by the time it takes to preplan the page!!!, find the negative, drop it off at a photo shop, and go back for it an hour or a day later! Do you use many enlargements and what helps you work through that process?

Love the page, Jenn! I don't scrapbook often, either, so every time I do, I feel like I'm starting over on the learning curve. I haven't used a lot of enlargements simply because of the problem you stated. I'm wondering if I printed them out at home if that would solve the problem. But then I wonder how much ink I would go through... I have thought about using an online service. You would still have to plan in advance, though. I guess I would just have enlargements made of my very favorite photos, with no real idea of how to use them, and figure that out later?
p.s. I know all about trade-offs. I think I could have a really clean house all the time if I didn't feel the genuine need to take time for myself. How does everyone with a clean house do it? I think I'm cleaning-challenged.
:) LOL
I am DEFINITELY cleaning challenged!
And what do you mean, you don't scrapbook often? I saw pictures on your smugmug of you working on a book for Eva's first year! She isn't a year yet! Ethan is a year and a half and this is seriously his second layout! I know you and Jill meet most Fridays- and yes there is some resentment in that comment but I still love you guys! :)
Cute page! Worth the time I say. :)I have been using enlargements on almost every layout lately. I so print a lot of picture from home, and we don't even have a way-nice printer. I don't think it cost much more than $100 either. I also plan most of my pages in my handy-dandy idea journal before I scrap them. If I don't have time to devote to scrap, I try to lan things out.
Very cute page Jenn. Well worth the wrinkled clothes and the living room that needs to be straightened. About enlargements--I love them and would use them on all of my pages if I had enough photos that I fet were worthy of enlarging. But for that purpose, I always get a digital CD of my prints from the printer. That way I can do enlargements at 1:00 in the morning if I want. And, I don't think the difference between the price of ink and the price of a reprint is enough to sweat. After all, you have to spend gas and precious time to go get reprints done. The only thing that hurts is when you have to buy a new ink cartridge. It is nice to dole that cost out a dollar at a time.
Very cute page Jenn. I'm impressed that you got to do something fun and creative, in the middle of a busy week. Who cares if the laundry still needs to be folded and the house picked up? (Okay, I care but in your case I say let it go.) It's important to take time to do things like that for yourself (and for Ethan) otherwise you'll emplode. That wouldn't be good for anyone in the family, so it's best if you get some time in your happy room.
Beautiful! I say that I don't do this kind of thing because I am not creative enough, but I think I just don't have the patience. I can certainly appreciate your brilliance though!
That is a dang cute page! But then, you have a dang cute boy to put in it. You are an incredibly talented scrapbooker. Don't sell yourself short.
I don't know if this is any comfort or not, but your house is always way cleaner than mine! And I don't have anything cute or productive to show for it!
Very cute page....just on the cost side, I saw a comparison once and it is cheaper to have them printed than to do it yourself. The figure I remember was for a 4x6 to print at home was 30 cents and Costco's are 16 cents. That's not including the initial cost of the printer port or whatever you use. I am out running around enough that it isn't a big deal to run in and pick them up, especially now that you can so easily email them at your convenience and don't even have to wait the hour.
darling page. i don't scrapbook, so i don't know what enlargements are? a world i know nothing about.
everything for me is digital.
