Mom Pay Offs
Being a mom is HARD. It is a lot of work, takes a lot of energy and time, and leaves you feeling unappreciated most days. But there are pay offs along the way. I got a huge pay off for Christmas and another for my birthday. My older girls (Kate, age 9 and Megan, age 8) bought me a necklace and earrings from the dollar store. But they wanted it to be a surprise and didn't want to ask permission to use the wrapping paper. Instead, they made their own! On Christmas morning, they walked over with huge smiles on their faces and a little box wrapped in this:
Then, on my birthday, my kids MADE me cards and gifts. Kate made me a cute card that had quotes in it. My favorite:

Megan made me the little journal- she decorated the cover and added tabs. There is a section for the kids to leave me coupons they make, she already had one for 10 hugs and 10 kisses! And there is a section for notes, where the kids can write love notes for me to read. I love that she ripped out the pages that had her stuff written on them so I could have this love journal! Thoughtful gifts really are the best!
Soren made me a coupon book. He read each coupon to me and explained how I should use it and reminded me that they are good as many times as I want to use them! What he came up with reveals a lot about his and my relationship (good and bad!)

It is SO fun to see what my kids come up with, how they spell and write and draw... these were definitely my favorite gifts and such a great mom pay off! Thank you my sweet children for thinking of me and giving so much of yourself to make me feel special! I LOVE YOU!!

I don't know what she thinks it means, but she told me she typed "mother quotes" in google and picked some. (My daughter googles?) So funny! And so sweet!they are more certain they are their own. ~Aristotle

I'm glad you had a happy birthday! I love these gifts from your kids. The Aristotle quote is hilarious! All of the gifts are darling. It is fun and sometimes sad to see how they view our relationship with them (my kids will sometimes say something about me wanting a break from them - it makes me sad that I make them feel this way)...
Definitely great mom payoffs, your kids are so cute - homemade cards, books, wrapping paper...they are in training to be creative like their mom!
Jenn this is so sweet. Little notes and homemade gifts do make it totally worth it. I love to see them give it their all and be so proud of their creations. Amie is right they are right on their way to being a creative genius like their mom. Glad you had a great bday.
You are certainly doing something right when you're children do thoughtful things for you. They are amazing and wonderful children, their gifts are so very precious, and you are lucky to get pay-offs this early for all of your VERY HARD work.
Thanks for all you do for my grandchildren!
What thoughtful children. I bet they were so excited about what they had done for you. The creative gene doesn't fall far from the tree.
I love all these sweet gifts from your kids. That Aristotle quote is so funny, though I'm disturbed that Kate can Google. It's so great that they gave you all of this sweet stuff, and wonderful that you blogged about it so you won't forget.
this is so adorable! what treasures. and they are learning from you...how to be thoughtful and how to give. not to mention their creativity. such a tribute to you and the great mom that you are.
Wonderful payoffs indeed. Did they do this all on their own initiative? I'm totally impressed! I love the quotes and the hand-drawn wrapping paper. Too cute.
Your kids are so cute and creative--they take after their mom. I'm glad you had such a good birthday. Handmade gifts are the best, especially when they're from kids. So, so sweet!
