laundry day

Monday is a recovery day at our house. With everyone home all day on the weekends, we kind of lose control of our surroundings! So, while I am trying to sort through piles of papers that have stacked up and clean the kitchen, I am also trying to stay on top of the laundry. This picture was taken a while ago when my kids were wearing 4T not 6/8 so the piles are even bigger now. But today is a good day because I only have 8 loads to wash: whites, lights, darks, towels, jeans, fleece/sweats, cold fabrics (kids) and cold fabrics (adult). It will take all day since my dryer is slow and folding just takes time! But I love the smell of clean laundry and to see all the stacks of clean, folded, wearable clothes! My favorite load to fold is the kids cold wash because it has most of their shirts and jammies which remind me of how much they have grown (Emily is wearing a pair of jammies that use to be Kate's and then Megan's and now hers!) and funny things my kids have done (Soren has twice as many shirts as the girls because his new fashion statement is layering, oh the terrible combinations he's made!). I HATE to fold whites. Even though I love clean underwear, folding it is annoying to me and don't even get me started on the torture it is to match socks! Mostly, I like doing laundry! It is just so brutal that at the end of the day, after all the work to sort, load the washer, switch to the dryer, fold and put away- there are dirty clothes in the hamper again!

I would have a heart attack if I had that much laundry to do. If anyone deserves a high capacity washer and dryer its you! I typically have four loads a week--a light, a dark, towels and Kaitlin's clothes. Some weeks I don't do darks. I guess that's the difference between 1 child and 5. Oddly enough I like folding our lights. I think that's becasue it's the easiest load to put away. We keep our socks and underwear in bins in our closet. Darks are more difficult because I have to hang most of that wash up. I hate hanging up clothes! Well, good luck to you today. But thanks for the reminder--Kaitlin has only one clean pair of pants to wear. Off to the laundry room!

That's about how my house looks right now! I am supposed to be doing laundry right now, but I just can't bring myself to do it. I'm with you; I HATE folding whites. The socks alone can take me an hour! Laundry is the true never ending story of motherhood.

That picture is really telling. You have 5 kids! Oh my gosh. I usually do about 5 loads. I like to do laundry on Monday too. Although I don't usually get around to the folding until Tuesday. Kind of a bummer that it's never really finished -- there always seems to be something in the hamper!

I figured out one time that when all 8 kids were at home I spent about 1/2 of my waking hours in a week doing laundry. I didn't usually mind because it was the only time I got to sit down, and in a day when you feel like you're getting farther and farther behind you had the laundry to show you accomplished something. I have to agree, whites and socks are the worst. Did you know I had a dryer at one time that actually did eat socks? A repairman found a bunch in the bowels of my dryer.

Oh Jenn, that picture gives me heart palpitations. It would be overwhelming to me. I tend to do laundry every other day or so with one or two loads on those days (I also have 3 less people in the house than you do), but this helps keep it manageable for me. I don't like overflowing hampers or tons to fold at once. And on the subject of dryers there was a girl in Eagle Mountain who had 2 dryers along with her 1 washer--luxury.

This picture stresses me out. Especially because I packed up two lg bags full of dirty laundry just waiting for me when I move. I too try to do laundry on one day...perhaps I should reconsider so my hampers aren't bursting at the seams.

I am a one day a week laundry doer also...I enjoy it all being done at once! I know I have many less people than you so I don't know if it is possible but I bought everyone Hanes socks with the Hanes written in a different color - MUCH more enjoyable sock folding when it is color coded!!! We have purple, green, gray, and red, and I know they also have a pink...
