goodbye to spring

Well, we thought spring had finally come. But, really, we knew better! The wind kicked up today and it will bring a snow storm in to our area late tonight! So, while we could, we dropped everything we were doing and headed to the park with our peanut butter & jelly sandwiches and our kites.
I spent the whole morning cleaning my kids rooms (without their help so I could throw out what I wanted to!!) I wasn't going to go to the park even though my kids were all excited for a picnic! But I have been thinking the last few days what a fun mom Kristi is and I decided- I want to be a fun mom too! So, I left the beds pulled out, the vaccum plugged in, and the dust rag on the dresser! And I ran to catch up to my cute family!
I am so glad I went- we had such a good time!! The cheap WalMart kites flew great! There were several other families there flying kites too. It felt SO wonderful to run around in the fresh air and just enjoy playing together. When we are at home, I always have "other" things to do than play with my kids. Today, for a couple of glorious hours, I interacted with my kids and laughed with my kids... When we got home, it was back to the normal screaming because they don't listen to anything I say. But I am so grateful for the time we got to spend together this afternoon, for the wind to blow our kites, for the sun that coaxed us outside, and for my children who shared their enthusiasm for a simple picnic!

I'm so impressed that you dropped the cleaning supplies and ran to catch up with your family, that's no small feat. The allure of uninterrupted cleaning, a quiet house, and time alone is a great one, so you really gave them a gift by going to the park!

The photos are darling, especially the one of Kelly with the 4 big kids (they suddenly look so old, especially Emily). I'm so glad you had a good time and enjoyed the beautiful weather. I was enjoying it too as I cleaned out the garage, and Whitney was on the lawn sorting through the dress-up box, until our cleaning got cut short.

I don't know if I would have been able to give up the solitude of being home alone. Kudos! Love the photos of your family. See, you are a fun mom! I can't remember the last time I went to the park...

Way to go Jenn. I've been thinking that I'm way too involved in my other things and that I don't spend enough time playing with Kaitlin. I resolve to go back to my ideas to plan at least one special thing with her a week.

Good going Jenn! Yesterday was such a beautiful day and this morning when I awoke to snow on the ground, I was thinking that I wished I had spent more time outdoors yesterday.

Excellent post Jenn. I also have to try harder than I want to to be fun! Thanks for sharing and reminding us of the important things. As we speak my family is waiting for me to watch AFHV so I am off...

I don't know what realm married woman move into when it is decided that cleaning is a better way to spend your time than at the park, but I hope I never get there. I'm glad you went Jenn, and I'm sure your kids were ecstatic to see you there. See... you aren't a terrible mother after all. (To avoid any conflict, this is a joke. I don't really think Jenn is a terrible mother... but I imagine the dentist might think so.)
