To Magnify the Call... Simplify the Work

These are the highlights of my last class at Women's Conference:
  • If you accept a calling, God will make it possible for you to do it! You have access to more power than your own and the Lord will magnify YOU when you are trying to magnify your calling! (I love that! It goes with what I said yesterday, that the Lord makes more of us than we are!)
  • If you do your best, it will be good enough. Just make sure it is your best.
  • You must begin with the end in sight. Pray for guidance- to know what you should be doing.
  • Put first things first. They will be real needs and come from realistic expectations.
  • Now, go to work!
  • Ask yourself if you are simplifying or just making another kind of busy.
  • Delegate. You must do this with joy and confidence, not pressure and criticism. You also have to accept what is done. (This is a hard one for me! I am too much of a control freak! But I am getting better.)
  • Magnifying your calling also means doing well anything that is delegated to you!
  • Accept your gifts/talents and give them! Don't try to be someone else or give talents you don't have.
  • Find quiet time to reflect and ponder on what and how you are doing.
  • Say NO to non-essential things. (Only you can decide what things are non-essential!)
  • Giving time to important things IS simplification. (Isn't that a wonderful statement! When I chose to play with Ethan on the swing set instead of make the pillow I wanted in my sharing station booth, I was actaully simplifying!! Hooray for me!)
  • Be humble enough to ask the Lord for help.
  • Most people will not remember what you teach them, but they will remember how they felt with you. Make it a priority to share good feelings and invite the Spirit into your calling.
  • Learn to RECIEVE! We are all so good at giving but what would we do if there was no one to receive?
  • The Lord expects from us: a willing heart, that we will give all we can, gratitude, trust in Him and that we will find JOY in the work.
This class was taught by two busy women who radiated joy in serving and exemplified the power of keeping things simple. One of the ladies said she wanted to show us some slides of important moments in her life. She didn't actually bring slides. She just said, slide number one and talked about what we were "seeing" in the slide. The presentation was indeed simple, but the message was wonderful! I have gained more out of retyping my thoughts and pondering how I felt in their class than I thought I had while sitting in it.

I feel that way about each of the classes! I love having this forum to write down my thoughts and share with you the lessons I learned at Women's Conference. I hope it has been valuable for you to read the words and messages too!

It sounds like this was another great class. I love all the notes, and really like the one about being yourself and not trying to be someone else. I feel like I am very much myself, but still ache sometimes at the qualities and talents my friends have that I don't (ugh).

I also love that all of these older women who teach the classes seem to have figured these things out. I feel like as I age I'm getting more comfortable in my own skin (even if it is lumpy and full of stretch marks, gross), and I actually look forward to being older and feeling like "oh honey, I've been through that and it's really not worth all the fuss."

I love the following: "Accept your gifts/talents and give them! Don't try to be someone else or give talents you don't have." Jenn, you should also have raised your hand and added the following to their presentation: "The coomparison is not valid at this time." :)
