Trying to Make Lemonade
In the last couple of weeks, life has handed us some nice, juicy lemons. We are trying our best to make lemonade out of the following events:
Monday, January 21st
Martin Luther King Day- No School
Lemon: My van slid about40 yards and crashed into a sign.
I am so mad about this! I would have made it 18 years in April without being the driver in any accidents. But, no. My number was up.
We were headed to lunch while Kelly showed our house and the van just lost traction on our back road towards Target. We crossed into the other lane and slid along a small drop-off for about 30 yards. Luckily there was no oncoming traffic, or even cars behind us, at the time. I didn't like how close to the edge we were, so I gently tried to steer back into the middle of the road but the back of my van swung forward and we slid another 10 yards until a sign stopped us- "Welcome to Lehi," yeah, right.
Some stranger with a big smile and an even bigger truck stopped to tow us out of the ditch. Then I drove to a safe place to wait for Kelly. Kelly came and while he called the insurance and the tow truck- I didn't know how far we could go since the tires were "pigeon-toed" and made going straight pretty hard- I took 3 of my kids home (that's all the fit in Kelly's little car). Then I came back for the others. Kelly didn't want to wait for a tow truck (they were backed up on a day like this!) so he braved the zig-zagging all the way to the mechanic. I followed him to make sure he was okay. Then we picked up lunch and came home.
It took 3 days and almost $1500, but I got my van back.
Lemonade:
We spent the rest the day inside, cozy and warm.
No one was hurt.
The accident happened after I had been to breakfast with my friends! (I know that may not seem like lemonade to my kids who were hoping to go out and do something fun too, but this is my blog!)
Maria and Melissa served with me in the Primary Presidency- it was so nice to sit and talk and laugh with them without the pressures of Primary business! And you have to love ladies who order diet Coke and a chocolate shake with breakfast!!
Saturday, January 26th
Lemon: Emily broke her arm. We didn't know it was broken for sure until Monday morning when the Insta-Care nurse called back to say the radiologist had reviewed the x-rays and found a small fracture. Emily always reacts with a lot of drama, so I knew it was swollen and sore but really did not think it was broken. Poor girl!!
It happened when she rode down a slide with Megan and Micah, backwards! Her arm ended up behind Micah and somehow he landed on it or ran into it... I don't know. He felt so bad and tried so hard to make her feel better. We certainly won't hold this against him- well, Emily might.
Lemonade: It is heart-breaking to see Emily in her sling and it reminds me to be a lot nicer to her than I usually am. (It is a sad truth.)
January 16th-26th
Lemon: We haven't sold our house.
I am SO tired of being without my craft room, Ethan asks every day for something that is in the storage unit, cleaning house every day is so much work...
Lemonade: We did show our house 15 times, plus 3 no shows.
We are back to hoping things will work out soon. And, it may be a blessing that our house has been on the market for almost 7 months because house prices where we want to move have come down at a much faster rate than our neighborhood has and we will get a much better deal than if we had sold right away.
Lemon: Winter is in full swing. This was the view out my windshield when I had to go pick-up Kate on Monday. My fingers ached for two days from the white-knuckle grip I had on the steering wheel.

Lemonade: When I don't have to leave the house, I love the cold, snowy weather because it makes me want to curl up under a blanket and read. I am ahead in my goal of reading one book a week thanks to the winter weather!!
Lemon: This post has taken three days to write thanks to life and BLOGGER.
Lemonade: It is finally finished and posted!!

Great post, Jenn! You do have some serious lemons, there, but I love the way you have been able to find the blessings in the trials. Good work.
What big lemons you have there! But what sweet lemonade you seem to have made with it. Love this post!
oh my goodness-- that is a lot of lemonade!
wow a broken arm and a van repair in one week? Ugh.
Your post will remind you that you can get through anything...
Hope next week is better!
ps- BLOGGER!
those are some lemons! well glad you were able to find the good in them.. hope your house gets sold soon!
I'm so glad you're making lemonade because this is a lot of lemons. You're doing well to see the good in everything though because really it could have all been much worse.
Plus, you're a week ahead for book club, nice!
P.S. If you need to come over and use my craft room for your circle journal you're welcome to do so.
I don't know if you meant it to, but your post made me laugh. Only because I can so relate! Why is it that when it rains it pours--always? Good attitude, Jenn. Good things will come your way soon, I just know it.
I relate to the lemons but I could take a lesson from your good attitude.
I hope the last several days have run more smoothly... is that possible with 5 kids and a house for sale? I hope.
I enjoyed your post! Some times it is hard to make the lemonade taste just right when your in the middle of making it. So I am glad you have shown us how.
I am going to tell you something you will not believe... I have not read your blog since "October Madness!" Just so you know, I read ALL of your blogs this morning so I am completely caught up. I want you to know that I appreciate your love, and strength, your wisdom, and your desire to be better. I am running late for work so I have to go, but I want you to know I am grateful for all the time I have lived so close to you, to learn from you. I dread the day I'll move away, but I will enjoy the time I have now. I LOVE YOU!
ugh! kudos to you for making so much lemonade. i might still be sitting here whining like i had gotten lemon juice in a papercut!!
"A Flower Pot is Not a Hat, but..."
or--
A lemon is:
a car,
a house,
weather,
a broken arm,
but....
You could write a book!
--of hope.
Maybe it's all uphill from here. Happy rest of the year!
just wondering if you have switched to hot cocoa yet? :)
