he keeps me laughing!
When I had a craft room, I had journals and notebooks and boxes and places for all the things I want to remember about my kids. Without my room, the documentation has gone missing. So, in an effort to remember some of the crazy and funny stuff, here is a list of what makes Ethan so dang cute right now, January 2008.
- He still calls a hat a 'hack'.
- He loves to secretly take pictures with my camera, and then ask if it is okay.
- He used to call the computer a 'bluter', which was really cute. (Our other favorite was Kate, who called it a 'buh-buter'.) But now, he keeps us laughing by correcting Kelly or I when we call it a 'bluter'. What makes it so funny is his obvious annoyance with our mistake!
- He prays every morning and gives thanks for "my mom, named Jennifer; my dad, named Kelly; my sisters- Date Nielsen, Mae-Mae and Emily; my brothers, Soren, and that's all; and our baby; and the good-neighbor house where we played Barbies." I love that he calls Kate, Date Nielsen. I don't know why he uses a 'd' instead of a 'k' or why she is the only one who gets a last name, but it is cute. And Megan is the only one who still has her nickname- also cute. And "our baby"- no, I am not expecting! The baby is Ethan. And the good neighbor house- we walked through it when we first put our house up for sale back in August!! His memory is frightening.
- I get to type this post because he is at the neighbor's house, crashing her princess birthday party! While I read at the school this morning, my neighbor watched Ethan and then just kept him through the party since he was having so much fun. He even found himself a dress so he could pretend right along with all the girls who were actually invited!
- His clothes always have to match- not as in coordinating or complementary but as in "same, same". Red shirt means red pants. Blue shirt means blue pants. You get the idea.
- Any time we turn on the t.v., he want to watch "the Scooby gang" and you can NOT skip the credits because he want to sing and dance to the theme song.
- He is awesome at Star Wars Lego for the X-Box. really, awesome!
- He changed "5 Little Monkeys, Swinging from a tree" to "5 Little Scooby Friends, swinging from a tree" and he can sing it until ALL the friends have been eaten by the alligator!!
- Yesterday, he came back to me, after I had asked him to get ready to go, and said, "Mom. There are no socks for me in this whole house." I about died laughing.
- My favorite Ethan phrases right now are "what the heck", "keep me safe", and "(blank) is making me nervous!" His words, no kidding.
- He still knows how to laugh from his core- life is happy. he is happy. he makes me happy!

He is so adorable! I really want to get him and K together--since they both like dress up so much! ;) I tried to convince Kaitlin a few weeks ago, but she only has time for her friend Abby these days.
I'm so glad that you and Ethan have so much fun together! His prayer is hilarious.
He is so funny. It's such a blessing that you have enjoyed him so much. I'm always jealous when bloggers document things like this because I have forgotten so much from when my kids were little and wish I had blog entries from back then.
I love that Kate gets her last name included. What a cute kid! And what a joy to have around.
i love to catch up on your posts. it's a great gift to yourself to record these special things about your children.
the laugh from a joyful child is contagious, isn't it? ethan sounds like such fun. and 5? i LOVE 5!!
ellie is my joyful child. i appreaciate her so much. she can light up a room. lighten a mood and change my day in a heartbeat.
i never "knew" what that meant b/c cass has always been our serious child. from the time she was born. it is a real treat when she gets silly and joyful b/c she is usually so darn serious and mature. :)
the differences from child to child never cease to amaze me. and what range you must have with 5!
