Is there a parent here?
This is one of several old posts that I wanted to include on my blog, but the pictures were on Kelly's phone. He finally got them downloaded so now I can post!
Back in September, Kelly took four of our kids to the Utah State Fair. I declined the invitation seeing as how I don't like crowds, noise, animal smells and dirt in any combination let alone all together!!
The thing is- when you don't go, you don't get a say in what happens. Kelly let our children choose which of the rides they wanted to go on. This is the ride Emily, age 6, picked:
I don't think it would be any surprise that this is Emily after her ride:
I was speechless! I would NEVER have let them on that ride in a million years!
But I wasn't there.
And, in spite of a few terrified minutes, the kids had a great time!
Kelly has much more patience for taking our children out than I do- I tell myself that they must mind him better than they do me! Whatever the reason, it was wonderful that Kelly was willing to take them on an adventure, one they would have missed if it had been left up to me. And although I still find myself a little speechless as I watch the video again- I am thankful that Kelly also has the strength to let them go and make their own choices. Sometimes it's good for them to spread their wings a little- I'm just not ready for them to be flying off quite yet.

A father's approach to parenting is so different from a mother's isn't it? The differences are staggering. Sometimes I look at the things Jeremy does/allows the kids to do and I'm shocked. Do we really live in the same house? But I'm with you. it is good to let your kids spread their wings. I'm just not ready to let them get that wide yet!
Was the video supposed to work? It just links to an enlarged version of the picture of Emily.
I tried the video twice and it worked for me. I don't know why it linked back to Emily for you Amy. Anyone else have problems?
The picture of Emily coming out of the ride is priceless! That's so funny. I'm shocked that she picked that ride.
The video worked for me.
oh my! i am freaking out just seeing the picture. i could not get the video to work.
scott is very "easy going" with the kids and it makes me nervous but i recognize that the girls need both types of parenting...
Oh my goodness. Is that allowing them to spread their wings or allowing them to jump off a cliff?! I wouldn't go on that ride myself! I think it's wonderful the kids get a chance to go out and do things with their dad. They'll always remember that kind of stuff.
Oh, the video worked for me.
I often ask myself that same question when Marc does things with the kids I would never do... I guess it's good they have a mother and a father, since we're so different!
That photo of Emily is some seriously great memory capturing! (I wouldn't go on that ride.)
