5 hours after my marathon...
By the time I got there, no one was monitoring the slide anymore and it had turned into a free-for-all. Ethan's 3rd time down, he tried to be like the big kids and go forward on his stomach, but he got bounced and had to catch himself at the bottom of the slide. So, seven minutes after arriving at the park, I was already holding a crying boy and hoping his arm was not actually broken.
We came home and iced it- as well as any 5 year old lets you ice their injuries. Then he fell asleep- a bad sign! And I had this nagging feeling- mostly inspired by two previous broken arms that I did not believe were broken. (The first was Ethan's (other arm) when he was just over a year old. The second was Emily's- also from an inflatable slide accident!) I woke him up and we went to InstaCare where the tech took six x-rays and confirmed that BOTH bones in his left arm are broken!
They put on a splint and sent us home to wait for some swelling to go down. Yesterday (Monday) we went to our regular doctor's office to put on a hard cast. Today, we went back to the office IN PROVO to have them trim the cast because it was cutting into Ethan's thumb.
Ethan hates it- he finds no glory or fame in having a blue cast on his arm and we still have at least 6 weeks. sigh.
Note to self: no more inflatable rides.
{This is the only picture I have of Ethan's doctor visits. I blame my fatigue because I had my camera in my purse, I was just too tired to remember to take it out! Dang it!}

Poor kid. Although, Micah is oddly relieved not to have been responsible for this accident. I hope he gets feeling better soon.
Angela did NOT ask my permission to share that information... But it's true. My relief that I'm not responsible nearly outweighs my sympathy, and probably would, except that I have also broken both Ulna and Radius in my left arm. It sucks. Poor Ethan. ...and whoever he smites with his cast over the next 6 weeks.
So sorry for Ethan...hang in there!!
Your marathon didn't end in Logan. But then a mother's never does. So so sorry for Ethan, and mom.
Seriously, no more bouncy slides for your kids! What a cruel thing to have happen after your marathon. I can't imagine that you felt like doing much of anything after that in the first place.
Oh Hon...this is so sad. But I'm so proud of you for having the insight not to let him sleep. I'm not sure I would have thought of that. :)
You are a really good mom for taking him to the park after your race. I didn't take my boys--I told them to go alone and if anyone hasseled them they were to say, "shes at home with the baby"--baby meaning the new kitten! LOL Anyway, You are a good mom and *HUGS*. Poor Ethan!
Poor Ethan - hope he heals up quickly!
