The Night Circus
The circus arrives without warning...
Already, my interest is piqued. Like the residents in each town the circus visits, I feel excited, energized and curious to read more. I continue.
The towering tents are striped in white and black, no golds and crimsons to be seen. No color at all... Black and white stripes on grey sky; countless tents of varying shapes and sizes, with an elaborate wrought-iron fence encasing them in a colorless world. Even what little ground is visible from outside is black or white...
Hooked. I can't wait to read The Night Circus, by Erin Morgenstern. And so, I read all day long- page after delicious page about Celia, Marco and the enchanting venue where they fall in love, even though they are competing to be the last magician standing.
What I loved about this book-
The descriptions which filled my mind with amazing images and teased all my senses.
The combination of settings. The circus in black and white, bathed in light and mystery; the studies filled with books and ink bottles, rich in color and texture with their velvet couches, soft cushions and heavy drapes; the imagination brought to life by the clock maker, the engineer, the costumer and, of course, the magicians.
The romance. Ignited by intrigue, heightened by distance, intensified by creating things to delight and please the other- I appreciated the reminder that for love to last, we have to work at making the other person happy even when things are challenging.
I think this book had everything I love so, if you don't love the same things I do, you may not enjoy this book. It gets five stars for being filled with things that delight my heart and excite my imagination- globes of blown sugar, filled with flavored creams... fire that burns white and lights that pop and spark... a menagerie full of animals made from paper... gowns that sparkle with starlight... Yes, I like to consider myself a rêveur.
I also love, that except for one f-word and 2 extremely intimate lines, this book is clean. Sometimes with the circus, writers go for the vulgar and obscene. I loved that this circus was whimsical and enchanting. After a quick swish of my sharpie, I will be handing it to my teenage daughter.

Reading your review is like experiencing the book all over again! I loved it too, and if the night circus appeared in the field by my house tonight, I would meet you there in a heartbeat!
You looked so cute last night! Pictures to come.
You didn't even post a picture of your awesome outfit!?!?
You wore an awesome outfit?
I'm convinced. I've added this to my "to read" shelf.
