sympathy for Emily

sympathy: an expression of sorrow for another person's distress
Emily came into my room this morning and told me she had a really sad dream. Normally, my kids go on and on to the point where I think they are making it all up, it wasn't a dream at all! But today, her dream was short and to the point and really, SO sad! She did add, before telling me the story, that, "there was a kind of exciting part too!" This is her dream: There was a train track in front of our house and do you know what train was on it? (No, I told her.) The Polar Express!!! (said loudly with great enthusiasm and big smiling eyes, obviously the "kind of exciting" part) Soren and I saw it. But, (eyes look down and shoulders sink) we didn't get to go on it. (My heart sinks at the vision of my child standing out in the snow with her brother, hoping to ride the most magnificent train EVER and being passed by! I ask her why she didn't get to ride.) I couldn't ride because we only had one ticket. (So, did Soren ride the train?) No. We both stayed home. We were really sad! (I'm sad too, Emily. I wanted you to ride the Polar Express!) I don't know why I am posting this except that I was SO upset for Emily! I guess I hope that sharing this will gain Emily more sympathy and make up for being wronged by that stupid conductor! (She is fabulous without your dumb train Tom Hanks!)

Isn't sad when kids have dreams like that anyway? I mean, what's up with that? Their lives are so fun filled and adventurous that it makes me wonder how something like that creeps in. Perhaps because she's a 4th child and sees her older siblings getting to go do fun things while she has to wait until she's older? Who knows? I have sympathy for Emily too.
That is one of the sweetest things I've heard. I can't believe they would both stay home because they only had one ticket. Emily is the sweetest little thing ever!! And I'm sad for her too.
That was so cute. I'm impressed that she could remember all those details and articulate them so well. And how sweet that neither of them went! Lucas has bad dreams all the time, like snakes coming out of the closet and slithering up onto his bed. That's why we always have to make sure the closet door is closed at bedtime!
I'm a little teary. I don't kn wo if it's because of Emily's dream or because of your post. t's so sweet that both of them opted not to go. They are good little friends, aren't they?
