Kate had her first piano recital last Saturday. She played on this $90,000 grand piano in the recital hall at the Piano Gallery in Draper. She was a star!! Or at least, we thought so! Most the kids slumped, mumbled and sulked. Not Kate. She walked tall, spoke loudly and clearly in the microphone to introduce her piece and her posture was gorgeous sitting at the piano! She also played her pieces really well! She memorized Big Black Cat and did a duet of Old Macdonald Had a Farm with her teacher. Kate has been saying piano is too hard, she has to actually read the music now instead of reading finger 3, 2, 1. But I hope she sticks with it because one, I wish all the time that I could play and two, she just looks so gorgeous and refined and grown up sitting at the piano!! Good Job Kate!

How proud you must have been! Try to strongly encourage her to keep on. As you can identify with, I've never met a person who regrets that they can play the piano, but I've met lots who regret they don't!
She's lucky to have the opportunity and to be so poised and confident as well. I hope she sticks with it too. If she struggles maybe a pep talk from Jana or Michelle would do the trick.
I didn't even know she was taking lessons. I'm thrilled for her! And you're right, her posture is beautiful. I hope she continues.
You weren't kidding about the beautiful posture. She looks gorgeous! I'm still a little miffed I wasn't invited to the recital. What's the point of living so close if I don't get to participate in major events? Ok, you're forgiven... A big congratulations to Kate from me. She may need to do it again for all the family Sunday.
So sweet. There's nothing quite like playing on a grand piano -- I love it when kids get the opportunity to do that. I think recitals are such a great experience -- wonderful when they perform well, and even when they don't, they learn that it's not the end of the world. Max still struggles with his lessons. He is so frustrated that he can no longer just sit down and play his pieces, he actually has to practice!
