Mother's Day

I have really mixed feelings about Mother's Day. I have wasted 20 minutes I don't have, sitting here trying to write this post so, I'm just going to forget explaining and report about the nice day we had and the kind things my family did.
  • Kelly brought me four, HUGE chocolate dipped strawberries on Saturday. They were tasty!!
  • Kelly and the kids came into my room Sunday morning singing, with breakfast on a tray and a basket of presents the kids had made. Kate made a pen holder and flower pen, Soren gave me YUMMY smelling bath salts, Megan gave me a portfolio of her best school work and Emily and Ethan (with a little help from Dad) gave me a nice bag for my temple things! The basket was a laundry basket since I do so much and only have one to work with!
  • We had dinner at Kelly's parents house. Always a treat to not cook!
  • Kelly and I watched a movie and ate frozen Jr. Mints, then headed to bed by 11pm (such a reasonable time for us!)
  • Kelly spoke in Sacrament Meeting and did a great job! (Too bad my kids didn't want to listen.)

That sounds like a really good Mother's Day. Did Kelly's mom end up doing the cooking though?

It sounds like you had a really nice day! I can't wait until Kaitlin's old enough to have a say in what she gives me for Mother's Day. Hopefully, whatever it is, she'll have had a hand in making it, and it will come FROM her. All of you (everyone who posted the drawings and cards their kids made, that is) are so lucky to get things like that! SO sweet. We had a good day, too, except we all woke up with terrible colds and stayed home from church to lay around on the couches watching Dora. Fun! I guess if any day typifies what motherhood is all about, a day spent watching the same Dora the Explorer video over and over does!

It sounds like you had a good day. I love not cooking. Those strawberries look fabulous! I love that Megan gave you her best school work.

Wow! Your kids really put some thought into your gifts. Yeah for them.

By the way, those strawberries look just like the ones that you make. You could make a fortune being a strawberry decorator. :)

I think your family came through very well for you. Did your kids come up with those thoughtful gifts on their own? Very sweet. I have very mixed feelings about Mother's Day as well. All I really want is to feel appreciated. Somehow that seems to be a really difficult thing to get across...

I'm cracking up about Amy's comment about watching Dora over and over. Yep, sounds like (s)motherhood.

I'm curious what your ward decided to give the mothers that day. I'm guessing not strawberries since you got those from Kelly.
What nice things your family did.
One of my goals in life is to have a guilt-free old age. The litmus test of that seems to be Mother's Day. Just when we think we are getting it right the kids move to a different stage--or out of the house!
