really random
I think my biggest deterrent for blogging is NOT actually my 2 year old- although I have placed the blame on him many times!! It is NOT my lack of things to say- that NEVER happens! It is NOT a lack of time to be at the computer- I check email and blogs EVERY day! My biggest deterrent is PHOTOS! Or NO photos! I hate to post without photos! Especially when I know I have photos that just need to be scanned or downloaded! But that step is one more than I seem to be able to handle and it really does prevent me from posting! How lame is that?!!! So, I'm posting. I do have one picture. You needed to see it! But, I don't have the others- the others that I imagine myself taking and downloading and uploading to blogger... sorry!

It is COLD here! Too cold for my taste. Thursday (I think), it snowed at my house. But not that light white bliss that you all dream of catching on the tip of your tongue and making snowmen with. Dry, biting snow and WIND!! When Kelly came home about 6pm, the inch or two of snow that had "fallen" during the day was making an 8 inch snow drift along my garage door! Now the temperature has dropped and the nights are single digits- TOO cold!
My point is not actually that it is cold. I just want you to get a feel for how WONDERFUL it was to dredge out to the mailbox and see a HOT PINK envelope in the stash of junk mail! HOT PINK! For the first time in days I felt warm!! The envelope contained a belated birthday wish from Pam- who I have not met but SO enjoy reading her comments on my blog!! It was a huge turning point in my very, very cold day! Thank you Pam! Thank you! Thank you! Every time I think I'm still so dang cold, I remember that HOT PINK envelope in my mailbox and immediately feel a little warmer, a lot happier and so very grateful!

I have been blogging for a whole year! I missed posting on my year mark because I don't know what the date is. I know what day of the week but NOT what number! I know what year it is even (2007 has made it on every check!) but not what date! I depend on my watch for this information- I did not realize how heavily! And somehow it has gotten off by twelve hours but I never know if it is right or behind or ahead... I know this should not be a difficult thing, but it is. Cut me some slack! And just wish me a happy blogging anniversary!

I have had two days with no obligations and so much I WANT to do that I have done nothing! How sick and wrong is that? I can't seem to create a working list for the things I want to do (and "want" is a loose term since I have unfinished Christmas presents, a filthy house and an entire page of Primary things that eventually need to get done!) BUT, with nothing pressing, with no deadline, I just can't seem to find my focus! I am trying not to be discouraged and just say to myself, what a nice change from the norm. But, dang! What a waste of two days- really, NOTHING! (sigh)

I am going to PARIS!! I am going to PARIS!! I am going to PARIS!! My face seriously hurts from smiling so much!

I finally put music on my ipod that I got for my birthday almost two weeks ago!! Kelly's library of almost 8,000 songs is a little intimidating. And the idea of audio books and pod casts... I feel really out of my league! But, I strapped it on my arm today (yes, this is one of my "missing" pictures!) and went to work cleaning my kitchen! I even scrubbed my floor (and walls and floorboards) by hand! Kelly did the bathrooms. I did the kitchen. It took us ALL day, but was so enjoyable to tune OUT the kids and listen to my favorite songs! If only I could find a pair of earphones that I like!

We had hamburgers for dinner tonight. It is too cold for the grill, but it is a favorite at our house so, we broiled them. The problem is, we had to make two batches and while cooking the second batch, the grease that was still in the broiler pan from the first batch caught fire and filled our house with smoke! I think our kids remained calm because Kelly and I were pretty much laughing, but I am still a little alarmed that Emily's response was to sit at the dinner table and say in her most matter-of-fact voice, "So that is what the alarm sounds like." I was sure we had the FHE that covered heading for the nearest exit when the fire alarm goes off. Oh well.
Four hours later, my house still reeks of smoke. Any ideas for how to de-smoke a house? And did I mention, I'm going to Paris!! :)

wow! lots going on with you jenn! so glad you got your songs on your ipod. oh how i love mine! i don't know what to tell you about the smoke. we got smoke in our house a couple of winters ago and just had to air it out...which is hard with the cold. especially this kind of cold! yuck!
i totally get the pictureless posts. that's all i've got these days with my camera woes and i hope people won't lose interest. i feel your pain!
and PARIS...ooh la la! what an exciting adventure. cant' wait to hear about that one!!!
I hate posting without photos, too, but sometimes I do it anyway. Happy blogging anniversary! Hard to believe it has been a year already.
Now that you guys have finalized your travel plans, it's really seeming real to me. I can't believe you guys are coming to visit -- I can't wait!!!
Remember when I made that poppy seed cake for book club and I used a pan that was too small and it overflowed in my oven and smoked up my whole house? (Eva and I came smelling of a campfire?) I read somewhere that vinegar helps. Simmer a small pan of vinegar on your stove top for awhile. Also baking soda. Sprinkle it on the carpet and then vacuum. Too bad it's too cold to open the windows!
I hate posting without photos too, that's one of the reasons I love using Smugmug so much (they're always available and they're my own, even if they're not exactly from that day).
That is so sweet that Pam sent you a birthday card! I love it that it eased the pain of the arctic weather we're having (it's "hit somebody cold" in my opinion).
We made broiled hamburgers for Game Night on Friday night and they were fantastic. I'm sorry your 2nd batch involved fire, smoke and an alarm but it's cute that you and Kelly laughed about it.
Woohoo for Paris!
Happy Blogging Anniversary! I have LOVED seeing and hearing about your life and that of my grandchildren. Thanks again for involving me.
Your #3 is the story of my life right now. I have many days with no pressing obligations, but every day has a very long list of things I need to do. I feel absolutely buried by that list. But when there's not a deadline, I horrify myself at how little I get done and how little this long list changes. Arghhhh!!! I'm hopeless.
I live random # 3 all the time! If there isn't a deadline pressuring me, I just can't keep my eyes on the prize so to speak. I'm working on it but I fear it is a life-long lesson I will have to keep learning over and over again.
The Paris trip is so amazing and I can't wait for everyone of you to go! Yeah for you!!
Congrats on the paris trip. I'm really excited for you guys.
I'm glad you're finding yourself with nothing to do. Sometimes it's my favorite thing in the world to just NOTHING!
Too funny about the burgers. At least you were laughing about it. I'm not sure how to get rid of the smoke smell, all I know is it takes a while to go away.
I think that me not having the capabilities of posting pictures, still doing film, keeps me from starting a blog, I know a lame excuse...
I'm glad that you liked the card and it brought a little warmth to the bone chilling cold you're experiencing.
Ipods! I need one. Have you tried the sony ear buds or the new Bose ear buds? My husband likes both.
I hate when I have a lot pressing on me and yet accomplish nothing, argh!
I do love your posts and updates. I wonder if I could wish myself small enough to fit into a carryon bag. Oh Paris, what fun you all will have.
I can totally relate to everything that you worte about. Everything. But the most realtable to me right now is not blogging because of pictures. I right there with ya! I've just decided to allow myself to not include pictures. After all, if I were writing in my journal there would be no pictures, right? Right. But still, it's fun to see nice, interesting pictures with a post. I did like your hot pink envelope. Very pleasing.
Oh, and are you going to Paris?
Happy bloggin anniversary! I think it is mine too?
Except for the Paris part I could have written most of this post. I so love the days without have-tos but they are often do-nothings for me. So sad to waste the day.
Sometimes I hold off posting for the pictures but then usually am not as excited about the event and the post is lacking. Today.... no pictures and still a lacking post.
I hope the smoke smell is gone!
