January Goals- start now.
Be realistic. Be specific. Do your best. Start now.
My birthday and the New Year come at the same time each year and I find myself extremely motivated by that combination to make BIG improvements in my life. When I can't pull off BIG, I tend to give up and do nothing. Tonight, I am trying to "improve" on that by posting without the quotes, the pictures and quite frankly- the cohesion I would like this post to have.
{This is the tree in my backyard, the one and only tree in our whole yard! It was such a happy sight to catch these birds perched on its branches despite the winter snow!}
Instead of making overwhelming and lofty year long goals, I decided this year to break it down and set monthly goals that I can evaluate the first of each new month. These are my goals for January 2008:
- Start each day with prayer.
- Blog at least twice a week.
- Exercise at least twice a week.
- Read one book a week.
- Get up before the kids 3 days a week.
- Eat breakfast on weekdays.
- Finalize my word for the year.
- Make a birthday calendar.
- Write one page on what I believe.
- Go Visiting Teaching.

Even though it sucks to have your birthday on a holiday and so close to Christmas, it's very cool that it coincides with the New Year. Every time I write a message in a birthday card I find myself wishing them well for their new year of life and have often thought that New Year's Resolutions would be a better fit on a birthday rather than on January 1st, so basically hooray for you!
I hope these goals go well for you, I'll especially be happy for you to post at least twice a week!
Yay a post! It's funny--I had the same idea about monthly goals. Year long goals just seem so unattainable. I never even remember what they are by the end of February. Good luck on the goals. They look like good ones!
happy birthday!
these sound like wonderful, meaningful, and ATTAINABLE *goals* for the new year!
I am the same way with goal setting. I set 4 small goals this year. Ones I believe I can handle.
Happy Birthday!
I think these are very attainable goals, and ones that will be a great benefit! Wise goal setting, Jenn.
I love the pic of the tree with the birds!

I love your goal breakdown and I look forward to reading your posts.
Happy belated birthday!
Hope you had a good birthday! I like your idea of doing the monthly goals. I always get overwhelmed with the yearly thing and feel like I never complete any of them! This is a good way to do it. Good luck!
I was contemplating doing this same thing, finding some way to break my BIG goals into smaller, more doable chunks. Your goals look great, and I especially like the admonition to start now. It's Jan. 3rd, but I'm not feeling the urgency to get going yet...
i've come back to see if you've blogged your second post of the week yet!!
;)
Fabulous goals; I almost choked on "read one book a week." That would be HUGE for me. I like to get up before my kids when I can too - the day is off to a better start when I can establish some order, get breakfast going, vitamins set out, etc. while everyone else is asleep!
