Race #3- Chase the Hare
This year, we skipped all the Easter Egg Hunts and headed to Lehi for another 5K. It was quite possibly the worst race we have run.
The registration form said start time was 8:30am but at 8:08, I saw a group of people take off down the street. What on earth? Well, according to their flyer, which is apparently different than their registration form, start time was 8:00am. So we missed the start of the race!! (We had been sitting in our van to keep warm and pin our numbers on.)
We hopped out (no pun intended) and started off after the other runners. The course was well marked IF you looked on the opposite side of the street from where you were supposed to go but it was not on well paved roads and there was NO help to get you across the streets safely- Soren was almost hit by a car.
After the race, we waited around for the participation ribbons. It took forever. You'd think it would have been worth the wait since we ALL placed, even after our late start!!
{Luckily, Kelly used his stopwatch to time himself so we were able to figure out the difference from the race clock and these are our "real" times: Kelly, 28:13; Jenn, 30:20 (my best so far!); Kate and Megan, 30:40; and Soren, who was NOT going to be beat again, 26:40.}
Unfortunately, it was so unorganized that you couldn't trust the results. One guy came up to the table and was so sure no one had been ahead of him that they just handed him a first place ribbon (and those of us who had been looking at the results posting knew he was NOT first), so at least two first place ribbons were handed out for his age group and maybe for our groups too. Who knows.
Despite all the chaos, we actually had a lot of fun. Our friends, Debbie and Kevin Gulledge, ran the race, as well as Logan Webb (who did AWESOME!) so we were able to visit with his parents, Joe and Piper. Kate's 5th grade teacher got married last year and her husband was one of the volunteers, so we passed on a 'hello' through him. We finished with good times. Soren got into the spirit of the day and ran in his "Darth Bunny" hat. And we left just as the rain started. We picked up Emily and Ethan from home and watched the rain fall out the IHOP windows, where we laughed about almost missing our race over eggs and pancakes.
Another race. More great memories. I LOVE racing season!

Yay!! You guys are an awesome family. I love small towns and more specifically this town, its just fun to run into so many friendly faces at the local events.
Good job you guys. I registered with the hope of jump-starting myself to run again, but the gloomy evening before turned into a gloomy morning and I hit snooze and said "forget it." (Instead I ate half-cooked pancakes at a ward breakfast.)
I must say that even the online registration process was a joke, and I would have been so irritated to go and find it that unorganized.
KUDOS to you on your thirty minutes! I'm really proud of all the progress you're making and hopefully I'll run alongside you again soon!
Your doing awesome with the running. Love that you have set a healthy pattern of living for your children.
Way to go! I'm impressed to see your kids out there running beside you!
Well looky who's blog I just stumbled across!! LOL
I love that you guys do this together. I wish that I loved running since it is such a great way to stay in shape. Chris would LOVE it if I raced with him.
Well congrats on finishing the race and WINNING it too! I hate it when things are unorganized!
Goodness!! Perhaps you should move back to Lehi and show them how to organize an event. I'm glad you came out of it with positive memories.
I had no idea you had a blog...you sneaky girl! lol
And I had no idea you were such a runner. WAY TO GO! :) Dallin's school is having a 5K sponsored by that 26.2 store in A.F. If you want to more info on that race, let me know. I'm gonna do it...LOL That will be REALLY funny...I'm sure it will take me an hour!
Wow! You guys did great! I would have been so frustrated about the start time misunderstanding -- good thing Kelly had his stopwatch.
It must be a pain to organize those races, but still those details are important to the people involved! Good grief, what if you guys had still been sitting in your car for another 15 or 20 minutes? It makes for a good story though.
