blog DANGER

I knew this would happen. I knew when I signed up for this blogging life and encouraged my family and friends to mix and mingle together- for the sake of being connected- that some how my worlds (and there are many) would collide and everything I held dear would be shattered. Tonight, it happened.

I have been proud, almost boastful, of the wonderful relationship I have had with my mother. I never thought of her as having favorites and so, I could be completely honest and comfortable in our relationship. As it turns out, ANGELA is her favorite! The sting is SO painful, I can hardly speak! How do I know this? My mother commented on Angela's blog, "I love you the most!" The most!! Never mind I have given her five amazing grandchildren! Never mind that I have let her sleep many nights in my home! Never mind that I drove her all over Utah and Salt Lake Counties so she could see family! Never mind that I made her a blogger! She loves ANGELA the MOST!

I don't know if I can continue with this blogging life, the truth must eventually come out and I feel like I am too fragile right now for such truths. I think I will have to un-invite Angela to Sunday dinner because seeing her will cause me a lot of deep, personal pain. Mother- is this because I forgot to send you Sharing Time ideas?

CLARIFICATION! I believe mother has been inaccurately quoted. She wrote, "I love you most." Now, while this may seem a trivial variation of the text, its meaning is hugely altered. Mother and I, in ending conversations, often play the childish game of "I love you," followed by "I love you more," which inevitably earns the retort "NO! I love you more!!" Well, mother has learned to settle the score by simply stating she loves me most, in that it is the most a person can love and can be loved understanding she gave me life. I will not, however, refute the fact I am her favorite. :)

Whatever!! When Jill calls to tell me that MY mother is coming to town to visit, then we'll know the true damage blogging can inflict!

Can I jump into the ring here? Geez. Angela's clarification is exactly right. Jennifer, I am grateful for all you do for me, and hold no ill will about sharing time, but I love you because you're you, not for what you do. And the one thing that makes me feel like I was any good as a mother is that every child thinks they are my favorite, which, in fact, is true. Tell me you believe me, or I may be scared and have to sleep on Ben's couch!

Too funny Jenn. I read Angela's blog too and got a little shock when I read that. I knew it must be something they say because no mom in her right mind would say such a thing publicly if it were true (especialy a mother of 8). It was worth it for your funny retort though and I'm glad you posted--it has been 4 days!

LOL. What a crack-up. I hope you and your siblings all believe you're your mother's favorite. I love that your mom said that. I hope I can make my children feel that way as well. BTW, I have had that strange feeling of worlds colliding with blogging as well! But ultimately I think it's pretty cool.
