sick and tired

Really. I am sick and tired! It just doesn't seem fair that mom's get sick. But I did, so I am trying to cope. Luckily, Kelly offered to cook this week! (Yes, you read that right! Kelly came up with a menu, went to the grocery and has cooked every night this week!!! I know- he's fabulous!!)

Yesterday, even though I felt terrible, I had an hour of quiet time and decided to make my gratitude journal. Since I started studying for the Women's Conference Sharing Station, I have felt like I need to do a gratitude journal! It is simply a notebook where you write five things each day you are thankful for. They can be as simple as flip flops or as important as finding inspiration to a problem. I have been writing on scraps of paper because I didn't know what book I wanted to decorate- but I finally did it!! And it makes me very happy. Another idea I had was to decorate these big clothespins, one for each of my children, and they can draw a picture of something they are thankful for and display it on the clips! These are the two I have finished so far (for Emily and Ethan, hence the E's).

I am SO glad that I chose gratitude as my topic! Jill has helped me find great quotes, sort through all my information and reaffirm for me how important gratitude is!! President Faust goes as far as calling it a SAVING principle! So, we are trying to incorporate more gratitude at our house. What I am most proud of- I started writing for my gratitude journal on April 5th. It wasn't the start of a week, a month or a year. I just said- I should do that and I did!! You could too! Grab a notebook, it doesn't have to be cute! And write five things you are grateful for. See how gratitude changes your outlook! I bet it is for the better!!

You simply will not be the same person two months from now after consciously giving thanks each day for the abundance that exists in your life. And you will have set in motion an ancient spiritual law: the more you have and are grateful for, the more will be given you. -Sarah Ban Breathnach

SO cute!! I love both projects. Just looking at them will surely lift your spirits. Maybe if I had a gratitude journal as darling as that I might remember to write in it each day... hope you feel better soon.

I think gratitude journals are a wonderful thing. I should definitely start one! The only one I've ever done with any regularity was a gratitude journal about Scott. I did it years ago when we were going through a very rough patch. I'm sure it saved my marriage. No matter how angry or upset or unhappy I was, I had to find something every single day about him that I liked. It's amazing what gratitude can do, wherever we put our efforts.

Great projects Jenn! I love to see the stuff you create. How fantastic that you took the time to indulge in some creativity even though you're sick; producing something that cute must have made you feel much better.

I kept a gratitude journal back in 1997 when I first read Simple Abundance. I loved doing and but stopped once I filled up my cute notebook. Very silly of me, but it was a long skinny notebook that I thought was so perfect for a gratitude journal that I just couldn't carry on without it, and I could never find another one like it. Retarded. I am going to start another today (not tomorrow, or the next day, but today!!) Thanks for the inspiration.

I love the journal AND the clothespins. How creative. I am so sorry you ended up sick - I was worried about that on Tuesday. I hope you get better soon. It is amazing what you can come up even when you are under the weather!
