Thursday Night Lights
It was a very cool experience to be on the field of LaVell Edwards Stadium last night and run drills with some of the BYU football players and coaches. After running through 6 different drills, designed to give you a feel for the different postitions on both offense and defense, we gathered on the 50 yard line to listen to Coach Bronco Mendenhall which was really a highlight. If I thought even a third of the coaches Soren would have in his life would be like Coach Mendenhall- I would sign him up today! I think he is just fantastic! He believes that success on the field comes from success as a person- learning, serving, working hard and doing your best all contribute to what you do on the field and he focuses on all those areas with his players. He is a good, honest guy who sees the big picture and I hope he is at BYU for a long time!
I drove down by myself because I had no takers on
attending the clinic- or so I thought. I had just signed in when a woman walked up to me and asked if I was Jennifer. Yes. Turns out- it was Christine Loveless who is not a stalker, just a non-commenter on my blog! Christine is a big fan of my mom (who can blame her!). She lived down the street from her in Texas before moving to Utah and she keeps in touch through blogs which is how she found mine. She had read my post about the clinic and thought it sounded cool so she rounded up 6 or so of her friends and they came to join the fun. I'm SO glad she introduced herself- she is a super cute lady and I hope she feels welcome to comment when she finds herself on my blog again!I also ran into a couple of other friends- Corinna, who was in my ward at one time, was there. So was Heather Howard who married a cute guy named Trevor but I can't remember her new last name, sorry Heather! It was also very random to see a girl who was at the fondue class I took on Tuesday night! If you aren't on this list- you missed out! There was a woman there celebrating her 88th birthday! Next year ladies- there are NO excuses!
{standing in the press box and
the inside of the locker room door- I think that is cool.}
The night also included dinner, a "question & answer" session with some of the players (oh my, women ask stupid questions!), and a tour of the locker room and press box. We didn't get much instruction on positions and rules (though our gift bags included a book to help with that) so I was worried what Soren would think when I got home. No worries:

{self-portaits with genuinely nice guys Max Hall (current BYU Quarterback), Brandon Doman(former BYU Quarterback and current Quaterbacks Coach), and Head Coach Bronco Mendenhall.}
I came home a hero!At least for a day, I am the coolest mom EVER because I brushed shoulders with players and coaches, I got their autographs, and I shared my gift bag which included a team poster and a media guide- hot off the press! Definitely 25 bucks and 3 hours well spent!!

It was so fun to finally meet you!! Now I won't feel like a stalker when I read your blog!! Thanks for sitting with us! I see a lot of your mom in you!! Not to mention that you look just like your sis, Angela. I'm glad that you had a great time! Looks like I will see you there next year!!
Sounds like so much fun. I wish I could have joined you. I love you. And I'm sorry you look like Scarlett Johansson. :)
Look at you! Now I'm a little bummed, although I wouldn't have come home as quite the hero you are since Jayden (and maybe not even Darren) don't really know the players that well.
I'm glad you went and even more glad you found friends to be with!
That looks like a lot of fun!
I would have totally gone with you. I had family in town. Next year for sure!!
It was my friend, Jenifer, who was quoted in the BYU article! She promised me that she would go next year, too. Looks like you've started a fun tradition! We'll have to come up with some intelligent questions to ask next year!
:) what we do for our kids!
hey does your hubby know you have all these men on the side? ha ha ha
I am sooo in next year! I wanted to go think year, but I was in CO visiting my sister in law. It sounds like it was a really cool experience.
Isn't that locker room something else??
Great pictures. Bronco lives in our nieghborhood. I hear that he is alway's in church the next day after a game. No matter what time he gets in. Has a really neat family. His boy's played on my son's soccer team last year. They were fun to watch.
