November 3rd: The United States of America

I have never lived anywhere else in the world besides The United States of America. I'm not particularly political and I don't pretend to understand world politics or foreign governments. But I know that I live in a choice land and I am so grateful to live in this country.

(After voting on November 2, 2010)

I am grateful for the freedoms that I enjoy.
I am grateful that education is a priority and made available to everyone.
I am grateful that I go to bed each night feeling safe.
I am grateful that I get to vote for those who share my beliefs.
I am grateful that I can worship in the way that I believe to be right.

This summer, I had several opportunities to hear the songs of each of our Armed Forces played. Each time, those who had served in the military were asked to stand when their branch was recognized. And each time, I found myself weeping.

(Kelly's dad being recognized at the Castledale Pageant for serving in the Navy.)

I don't have to be highly educated in politics or policy to know that I live in a special place. A place that was established by men who were inspired by God. A place that has been defended by men and women who love freedom. A place that allows me to live each day as the Spirit directs me to.

Today, I am so thankful that I live in The United States of America.

I hear you. Can you imagine a time or place when women were not allowed to vote?

Amen, sista! (That's especially appropriate because you are my "sista")
