October Highlights

Cruise photos are coming. I promise, but I have to sort through 2000 of them! No joke.

Halloween will be it's own post (and is rarely a highlight for me anyway).

So- in an attempt to catch-up on the rest of the month's activities, here are seven of the best things about October 2010:

1. Birthdays
We were able to celebrate some terrific people this month!
Happy Birthday to Dion on the 10th; Soren, Sheryl (and Whitney) on the 18th; David on the 25th; and a late birthday wish to Angela since we were in Puerto Rico for her birthday on September 25th!

2. Blankets and Learning a Skill.
Megan chose to learn how to tie a quilt and then donate it to the Humanitarian Center for her Personal Progress Project. She and Kate went up to their Grandma's house for part of fall break so they could learn how to tie and bind a quilt. They were able to finish not one, but THREE quilts!

I don't know how to thank their beautiful and amazing grandmother for taking the girls and teaching them how to do this. She is one of the most generous and wonderful people on this planet and we love her so much! The girls learn so much from her, not just how to tie quilts, but how to serve happily and love unconditionally. I am so grateful they were able to spend this time with her!

3. Thriller.

Megan and I joined our friends, Sienna and Jenny Lynn, for a fun night out- we went to Odyssey Dance Company's production of Thriller!! It was creepy and amazing and so much fun! The highlight of the night was seeing Gev dance again- he was one of our favorite dancers from Season 4 of So You Think You Can Dance! (Jenny Lynn also hosted a Witch Party earlier in the month, but I don't have any photos from that.)

4. Creative Friday

I can hardly imagine a better treat than to open your door and find that your friend has arrived to spend the afternoon chatting and working AND with a giant cherry limeade in her hand!

Jill let me substitute for Creative Friday while Michelle was in Denver and it was such a d
elightful day. I get my best ideas, or at least I prioritize my best ideas, when Jill is around to talk to. I have always appreciated what a good listener Jill is and the good advice she gives. It wasn't the most productive day (note to self: don't answer the phone during Creative Friday!), but I was so glad she came!!

5. Decorations and Treats.

I really am NOT a big fan of finding costumes for five kids. It would ruin October for me if I didn't love the decorations and treats SO much!

Krispy Kreme had the cutest donuts all month... Candy Corn Kisses, bags of ALL vanilla tootsie rolls and mellocreme pumpkins filled the store shelves... Spiders, witches and skeletons took over my tables... I love Halloween! Minus the dressing up.

6. Football

Soren has been playing tackle football again. He loves it. And it has been so fun to attend most of his games this season. The October ones have been especially brisk, like football should be! And I love being able to identify Soren on the field by his striped leg warmers!!

7. Sweaters, Socks and Soup!

This is one of my "12 on the 12th photos"- my cute knee-high socks that matched my gray sweater and kept me cozy while I read my book club book. I also sipped pumpkin hot chocolate and cooked a big pot of pumpkin soup. I LOVE fall!!!

Of course, October hasn't been all highlights. A few low-lights this month have included:

  • kids with colds,
  • a nasty computer virus that took Kelly several hours to squash,
  • rain water leaking into Emily's room,
  • snow (I'm just not ready!!)
  • AND-
  • getting my van stuck on a fire hydrant while trying to deliver a secret Halloween treat. BOO-ing became BOO-hooing and left me with a bent fender and a very embarrassing story that my kids love to re-tell!!

Overall though, it has been a great month. We've stayed busy, warm and happy. Now that the fall colors are gone and October is coming to a close- I'm aware that Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner, so I will be ready...

No. I don't really think so either.

Gah! I popped over to your blog to declare how DELIGHTFUL your craft workshop is (I'm a reader of Jill's blog), and what to my wondering eyes did appear?????

A picture of you with my friend Jenny Meek! Front & center on your blog! Weird. How do you know Jenny? Love that girl.

Hooray for a new post!

You've had a busy month and have been up to all sorts of fun things. I really must see "Thriller" one of these years, I don't know how I have never gone.

Thanks for having me over for Creative Friday!

You know how I feel about Krispy Kreme donuts (and almost all donuts really), it's a problem. It gives me pain to even see these cute ones. I seriously can't so no them, even when they're not here. This may be my first official case of vicariously overeating!

Soren's leg warmers are funny.

I always think of you when I see fun socks!

I really hope the fire hydrant incident didn't happen while coming to my house!

Your post literally makes me want to cry. No Halloween decorations, treats, pumpkin soup, or pumpkin anything, no such thing as candy corn, and definitely no snow. Not even a golden leaf. We do have some cool wind, but there is no sense of the beginning of the "holiday season" here. Sigh.

Oh Jenn! I'm sorry about the car incident - no fun! YAY for quilting! That is becoming such a lost art...keep the girls going, they'll never regret it. If you get a chance, stop by the old WP cul-de-sac for a little cocoa and soup on Halloween - we'd love to see you and the kids!!

Isn't it amazing how quickly a month flies by? It looks like you are busy with lots of fun stuff.

I do want to hear more of the hydrant story. That made me laugh just a little. Mostly because it is something that I would totally do!

Lets get together this week!

Looks like a busy month!

Thriller looks like a great time. I love Gev. Cute socks make me think of you, too. Treats and decorations are definitely the best part about Halloween!
