Lightning McQueen vs. The Hudson Hornet

Our pack's Pinewood Derby was held this morning
and Soren was ready to race!

Kelly spent days helping Soren get his car cut, sanded and painted; the wheels running smooth with graphite; and the weight just right- 5 ounces exactly! Soren chose to make his car look like Lightning McQueen. Kelly was patient with Soren, who is not real good at sticking to a task or following directions, and let Soren do a lot of the work. He didn't place but his car raced well until his final heat against the cars that did place.

It was fun to see the open races- boy scouts and dads had made cars or brought old ones to race with the Cub Scouts while scoring was being done. Jason Bradford, our bishopric counselor over Scouts, and two of his boys, Tyler and Caleb, made a Hudson Hornet which raced against Soren's Lightning McQueen. Soren's car won but the boys, young and old, had fun cheering and watching their cars run down the track.

As a leader, it wasn't a great pack meeting. But the boys had a blast and that is what matters. After racing in the Pinewood Derby, we are now off and racing through the other activities and jobs that Saturday brings. Ready. Set. GO!

The Pinewood Derby is the only Pack Meeting of the year that I actually enjoy. Ours is next month so hopefully it won't disappoint. Landon's car was awesome last year and it was strangely exciting to watch the races.

I'm glad Kelly "let" Soren do most of the work since that is how it should be. What a fun little pack we have. Justin can't wait to start going in July.

I'm with Jill -- Pinewood Derby is usually the only pack meeting I find worth attending! And we only do it every 2-3 years...

So should we start working on the car now? I know Ryan is only 4 but, it looks pretty serious. We might need to start practicing now.
