Family Fun Day

Summer is quickly coming to an end and if you read my last three posts, you know that I had commitments three nights this week, plus Kelly took me to a movie Friday afternoon. Next week isn't any better and things just keeps rollin' until school starts on August 18th. I knew my kids needed some serious fun this week, so that was the goal on Monday.

We started the day with Uncle David- he and his landlord were gracious enough to have us over to swim. It is always a treat to swim with David, who is King of flipping off the diving board, because he isn't afraid to get splashed, choked or attacked by my mediocre swimmers. He also finds us life jackets, goggles and diving toys. AND he cleans up the pool when we are done.

After swimmin
g for a couple of hours, we hit McDonald's for lunch. David had to go to work but went in late so he could hang with us a little longer- we LOVE that!

The afternoon was rough. Everyone was tired and waterlogged, including
me and that led to a lot of yelling. But we suffered through until it was time to head to Thanksgiving Point for their Summer Water Fling which included this giant slip 'n slide down the amphitheater hill:

I
was tired and my head still rattled with water from swimming, so I took pictures while everyone else slid down and then raced back to the end of the line. There were a lot of people- I hope they run a second slide next year to accommodate the crowd.

Even in the crowd, we ran into friends, including the Coes, the Mosier
s, and the Lethbridges, which is always a treat!!! {I feel so dumb- Darren and Tony both took on the slide in their street clothes to help their boys get the most out of the slide! It was a riot and of course, my camera was turned OFF as they sped past. I hope to hold on to the visual memory of Tony going head first down the slide in his jeans and long sleeved collared shirt because it was a fantastic run- way to go Tony!}

We ended the day with fireworks courtesy of the city of Cedar Hills. They had to postpone their show because of a wicked wind & rain storm Saturday night. Our friend, Ashely, was in charge of organizing the event, so I know it cost them thousands of dollars to delay it- but it was worth it! It was a great show accompanied by fun music including ABBA, Neil Diamond, some Indiana Jones, Bourne Identity and of course, a Sousa March! Fireworks are the best way to end any day, but especially our Family Fun Day!

We really need to do this more often!

I so wanted to go to the slip and slide on Monday night, but Jeremy was still exhausted from his trip to Japan, and with my neurotic kids, that was not an activity I was willing to do on my own. Fun day, Jenn. . .despite the yelling! ;)
